Commissioned book chapter for Makers, Crafters, Educators: Working for Cultural Change
edited by Elizabeth Garber, Lisa Hochtritt, and Manisha Sharma, Routledge, 2018.
The chapter features Sewing Rebellion
by artist Carole Frances Lung. Created in 2006, Sewing Rebellion provides free access to sewing machines, supplies, and instruction in garment construction, repair, and repurposing. The project seeks to reclaim skills that were lost when the ready-to-wear clothing industry replaced the home sewing of garments, providing participants with resources to stop consuming fast fashion produced under highly exploitative working conditions.
