CARPA Flag (Joshua Tree)
2013
Flag making workshop
Studio Assistant: Christie Carlson
The flag was created using screen printed and hand painted fabrics.

The CARPA flag is inspired by the flags of the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force — whose bases are adjacent to the CARPA field exercise site.
The flag has a red background and displays CARPA’s name, together with its motto: “Innovation - Knowledge - Technology”. The CARPA flag incorporates symbols associated with craft, technology, and knowledge sharing, for example: a ball of yarn and knitting needles (inspired by the globe that is part of the Marines logo and flag); lightening bolts (inspired by the Air Force logo and flag). It also includes American national symbols such as the American Eagle, stars, and the colors red, white, and blue.

CARPA Flag will be exhibited at the Portland Museum of Contemporary Craft in Fall 2015.
