album, a postmemory installation
Installation combining family photographs, archival photographs from the Lodz ghetto, home furnishings, handwritten wallpaper, video
Detail, family photographs of my parents and grandparents together with archival images from the Lodz ghetto.
My maternal grandparents were born and raised in Lodz, Poland. They fled in 1939. Only two of my grandfather's brothers, and a few cousins survived. Whenever I see photographs from the Lodz ghetto, I think it's possible that some of those pictured could have been members of my family who perished, and so I included a few such photos in the work. No viewers (aside form members of my own family) would be able to distinguish these archival photos from those of my family.
